According to latest reports, the CD Leganes defender will miss the 10 September friendly in Ukraine. The reason – he is currently processing his work permit in Spain.
The Super Eagles will take on Ukraine in a friendly game in Dnipro on September 10. For Nigeria, this will be the first game since finishing third at the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations in July. Coach Gerno Rohr is hopeful that his side will return to their best soon.
Omeruo Out Of Super Eagles Friendly
The Kaduna-born defender returns to Spain on a permanent deal from Chelsea. So far, Omeruo has two appearances in La Liga for his new club. Nevertheless, Leganes are off to a bad start in the league. The team has lost their first three matches, but the Nigerian defender remains hopeful that they will bounce back soon.
Latest Super Eagles news state that Kenneth will not be available to coach Rohr. In a telephone interview on Brila FM, Omerio confirmed that he will not travel to Ukraine with the rest of his countrymen.
“Yes, it is true I will not be part of the match because my work permit is still in the process here in Spain.
“It is an important process I need to get done for me to continue to play in the Spanish La Liga and also concentrate more on my game. So, I will miss the match against Ukraine.
“All the same, I wish my teammates the best of luck in the match.”
Super Eagles News – More Trouble For Rohr
The 2013 African Cup of Nations winner is not the first player to pull out of the coming friendly with Ukraine. Earlier, Wilfred Ndidi was sidelined for the coming fixture due to a hamstring injury. Coach Gernot Rohr made the decision to call PAOK star Anderson Esiti to replace the Leicester City midfielder. This leaves the Super Eagles with a 23-man squad ahead of the friendly.
Kelechi Iheanacho, Semi Ajayi and Tyronne Ebuehi will return to the squad after missing 2019 the 2019 Afcon. Daniel Akpeyi and John Ogu will not feature in the coming friendly.
